alternative care

HERBALIST / Homeopathy:

I have a difficult time digesting foods and in turn absorbing the nutrients from them.  I have tried a variety of herbal enzymes such as Pineapple, Papaya and proactazyme.  I am trying the green papaya raw but I have yet to find one that works really well.  My diet eases my trouble when I follow it EXACTLY!

I learned about the Mucusless Diet by reading a book by Professor Arnold Ehret.  I adjusted his recommendations to fit my nutritional needs for CF (no wheat, dairy or meat except bony OCEAN fish and 75% raw fruits and vegetables that can be added to warm broth). My newest favorite is a Korean favorite Bi Bim Bap which is a sizzling hot stone bowl filled with rice, assorted vegetables, kimchi, scallions, sesame and chili sauce and sunny side up egg.  I skip the egg, add raw garlic, chili paste and a dash of coconut milk.  I think fish would be a nice addition.

Aromatherapy with Essential oils: I spend part of my days working at the Aromatherapy Foundation of Maui.

"The process of detoxification can be made possible with the use of essential oils. One common method of using essential oils to enhance your lung health is through diffusion, wherein a few amounts of the essential oil is placed into a diffuser device until the essential oil constituents are broken down into molecular sizes and be easily dispersed into the room. This makes it easier to inhale and breathe the essential oil components into your lungs and respiratory systems to facilitate in the process of lung detoxification."  My go to Essential oils are;

Frankincense • Eucalyptus • Ravinstara • Ylang Ylang • Lavender

Herbs and tonics

Cayenne pepper ground and sprinkled in tea with squeeze of lemon is detoxifying

Pau d 'arco is an immune building and anti-fungal herb I use in tea form
Fenugreek to dissolve mucous congestion and kill infections in my lungs
Thyme to help relax my lungs and promote expectoration of mucus
Bitters Tonic for small intestine detox
Bifidophilis to replace friendly bacteria.  I use FLORA Udo's Choice Super 8 Hi-Potency Probiotic, KIMCHI and the occasional glass of Kombucha.
Oregano Oil is nature's antibiotic.  The oregano plant has been shown to kill unwanted bacteria, fungus, yeast, parasites and viruses. It's also a powerful antihistamine.

Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements

I like to make smoothies in the morning and green juice drinks which I add Spirulina too.  I also use a prenatal (although I'm not pregnant) vitamin or ADEK's which has the FAT SOLUBLE vitamins I do not absorb, A, D, E and K. B-complex is also recommended although I haven't added it to my regimen. I also use Medi-Clay by Premier Research Labs, which is an absorptive detoxifier of the whole body.

ACUPUNCTURE

I was most recently diagnosed as being Yin deficient specifically Lung Yin. I was experiencing symptoms such as night sweats, tiredness, insomnia, tinnitus, and dry skin and eyes.  Since reaching Maui, I have spent time concentrating re-building my Lung Yin through getting more sleep, meditation, exercise and reduced caffeine intake.  It's definitely time to be scene again and see where I am at.

Acupuncture is a form of Chinese medicine that focuses on the channels of energy that run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These energy channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues.  When something blocks the movement of these energy rivers, it causes backups throughout the whole body.

In acupuncture, the meridians are influenced by needling the acupuncture points; the acupuncture needles unblock the obstructions, and allow the regular flow through the meridians.  Acupuncture treatments can help the body's internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption, and energy production activities, and in the circulation of their energy.

MASSAGE

TOUCH is necessary for humans to thrive!!  Babies, adults, even animals benefit from the simplest forms of massage.  I believe EVERYONE should experience a little massage EVERYDAY!!  10 minutes is all you need to start feeling the benefits for some of the most common daily challenges!

Stress relief • Immunity boost • Manage anxiety and depression • Pain Management
Greater flexibility • Better Sleep • Better breathing

I started receiving massage after acupuncture.  It was an additional treatment that helped relax my intercostal muscles (between the ribs) from coughing.  Not only that, it became most beneficial for my stress.  Unfortunately, we aren't all rich and affording this type of treatment can be costly.  I receive massage from my man or self-massage and splurge on a 90 minute session when the opportunity arises. My favorite on island is  Maui Spa Retreat.
